SAILING & WATERSPORTS

Sessions for Groups

We welcome group sessions!

For group watersports sessions, we offer a price per person rate that varies according to the activity, location and bespoke needs of each group – we can tailor your day of activities to what you’d enjoy most.

CST Experiences is a Not-For-Profit organisation that exists to bring inclusive watersports, activities and events to all. We are owned by charity Children’s Sailing Trust who have operated on the Helford River since 1997, opening the fully accessible watersports centre Trevassack Lake in late 2021.

All activities bought and paid for through CST Experiences (CSTX) help to support the work our charity does with disadvantaged school children and SEND groups.

Available Activities at Trevassack Lake

1:1 Sessions

At Trevassack Lake we can offer 1:1 sessions that are completely tailored to an individual’s needs. These can be taking a child out sailing and learning how to sail over the term or just going out to create confidence on the water. Trevassack Lake is designed to be fully accessible and aims to get anyone out on the water no matter who they are or what their needs may be.

These sessions can run alongside our schools’ programme so are available during term-time. If you would prefer for the child to participate in the mainstream schools programme instead, we can offer a 1:1 within them session, but this would need to be requested in advance.

1:1 sessions are £50 per hour and include the use of changing rooms and all safety kit. We can provide wetsuits if needed or you are welcome to bring your own. All participants must wear shoes and we have a few that can be borrowed if needed.

Swimming

Open water swimming sessions for schools are run by a swim coach and can help build water confidence in children. These sessions can be adapted to make it work for your school and all ability levels. We also run open water swimming sessions for the public all year round.

Cost – minimum booking of 8

£100 for 8

£180 for 16

£260 for 24

£340 for 32

Trevassack Lake has changing facilities that can be used for all on session with warm showers. We can also provide wetsuits to those who need them, but it is still recommended that participants bring their own.

Multi-Activity

We offer multi-activity sessions throughout the season. These can be used for all sorts of celebrations, whether it be end of year or just for fun. At Trevassack lake, we have a wonderful selection of kit, from sailing boats to kayaks and katakanus, that can be used on your multi-activity sessions. We can also run raft-building sessions and open water swimming too, for children over 8 years old. Please let us know when booking if this interests you. We completely tailor the sessions to your school’s needs and work with you to ensure that we are doing the correct session for your children.

We can run these sessions on Mondays throughout June and we also have availability from 8th – 26th July. These sessions can either be a full day (6 hours) or a half day (3 hours). A full day of activity also includes the hire of the classroom for lunch and possibly some land games to get them ready for watersports again.

Multi-activity sessions cost £50 per child for a full day and £30 per child for a half day, with a minimum of 16 children and maximum of 65. We can run open water swimming only sessions as well.

Floaty

Floaty is our bespoke floating classroom that is fully accessible. It has the capability to carry 12 people on a gentle tour around the lake. Floaty can accommodate wheelchairs which means we can get anyone on the water, no matter their physical ability, and in most weather conditions. The floating classroom is a unique learning environment and a chance for children to get out in the middle of nature, and our activities reflect this. Students can identify wildlife living on the lake and learn about the importance of preserving natural habitats, or have any other lesson set in a unique outdoor environment. Having an electric engine that is powered by the sun allows for a relaxing tour and the ability to get up and close to the nature that lives at Trevassack Lake.

Floaty can be hired at £30 for 30 minutes or £60 for an hour and this price includes your safety equipment and a driver.

If these sessions interest you, please get in contact so we can work out a plan for your school.

Either ring the lake on 01326 702326 and ask for Rupert/Lucy or email schools@childrenssailingtrust.org.uk

Team building on a paddleboard with CST Experiences

Participants are not required to be able to swim but do need to be confident in and around water. We provide all necessary specialist equipment, including buoyancy aids, helmets and wetsuits where appropriate. Each activity participant would need to provide their own:

  • Swimwear and T-shirt/rash vest
  • Towel
  • Windproof jacket
  • Closed toe shoes (old trainers or wetsuit shoes)
  • Filled water bottle
  • Completed CST Activity Health & Water Confidence Declaration form (issued at time of booking)

School Groups

Most ‘terms’ are booked in blocks of 6 sessions over 6 weeks, however each term can be tailored to the availability of the group, from 2 sessions to infinite.

Working towards the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Youth Sailing syllabus, these regular sessions have been proven to develop a student’s confidence, competence and resilience. In partnership with the RYA OnBoard programme, our sailing sessions complements school curriculums and teaches invaluable life skills

A group representative (teacher, leader, parent or carer) will need to take the group co-ordinator role and liaise with CST in the set up of the programme. Once it is set up they need not be onsite during the sessions (however you are more than welcome to get involved!).
