A wake is a special gathering after a funeral that provides loved ones, friends and family, with the opportunity to come together and share memories, celebrate life and support each other. It is also another option for those who were unable to attend the funeral, to say their goodbyes in a comforting and social way.
About Us
Here at Trevassack Lake, we offer you a beautiful lakeside venue to celebrate your loved one with ease.
Our kind and supportive coordinator can arrange a funeral reception that caters to your needs, from a simple space to gather in memorium to a fully decorated venue with catering. Our lakeside wake venue is fully accessible with free parking and dual-aspect views from tthe inside space, opening onto a waterside deck area should you wish to be outside. There is also the option of hiring the beach area for a simple gathering at one with nature.
Trevassack Lake is owned by Children’s Sailing Trust, so using our venue helps support the work they do in teaching young children skills for life through sailing.
Wake Venue Planning
Organising a wake may seem slightly daunting, especially while dealing with funeral planning and end of life admin, so we are here to help make your wake a more comforting experience.
All we need to know from you is:
- an idea of dates
- how many people you’d like to invite
- your budget
Once we have spoken to you to understand how you would like your funeral event to take place, we will do our best to take the pressure off you and have our lakeside function room ready to welcome your guests.
We can provide catering menus from our lakeside cafe, standing and sitting options, inside and outside spaces plus a sensitive welcome where dogs are also allowed. Our wake venue can help take some of the pressure off by preparing and serving refreshments, or providing self-serve facilities if preferred.
Accessible Wake Venue
Our lakeside function room can be hired for any occasion and we have held several funeral wake receptions and gatherings, particularly for those who have family and friends who use a wheelchair as our entire site is fully accessible.
Natural Environment Venue for a Wake
If your loved one had a particular connection with nature, the water, sailing or just Cornwall, Trevassack Lake is a lovely place to feel close to them.
Commemoration
We have plenty of space for creating memory boards and displays of personal items you may like to have around the room to reminisce and trigger favoured memories – perhaps you’d like to bring a book for guests to pay their respects and condolences in.
Some ideas of things you could bring to celebrate their life include:
- Photo display – invite people to send pictures you can print to hand around the room or pin to our display board
- Digital montage – play a video or a showreel of photos from a laptop and projector setup
- Book of Condolence – this can be a place for guests to record their favourite thoughts and memories of your loved one for future comfort
- Music playlist – favourite songs or bands that they loved, or music that reminds you of them. We have a small PA system that you can connect to via wire or bluetooth
- Decor – favourite flowers, food, drinks and snacks
- Presentation – the room can be set up for small seated groups, or more formally with rows of chairs
Organising a wake is a very personal occasion so it is up to you to decide what suits you best. We will be happy to assist in helping to provide your vision.
In Memory Of
We are happy to set up a page on our charity website for donations to Children’s Sailing Trust in memory of your loved one. This is at no additional cost and can provide an outlet for those who cannot attend the funeral or wake in person.
It is your online space to include any words and pictures/videos you would like to pay tribute and you will be able to check the page before it goes live. You will be given a website address and a QR code so you can include them in the Order of Service or send to family and friends further afield.

The double-height inside space available for hire is in our Venue Centre, perched on the edge of our 10 acre natural freshwater lake. There are large windows and sliding doors on two sides of the room looking out over the water so you can watch the watersports or the wildlife. There are blackout blinds if you require, plenty of tables and chairs and electric points. The room is 8.4m by 9m and can comfortably seat up to 60 guests or up to 100 standing guests (one wheelchair user equates to two non-wheelchair users, to allow them sufficient space). For accessible events, these numbers may change to ensure adequate fire safety.
How much does a lakeside wake cost?
We can work to your budget to provide the space with or without additional extras such as catering, building a bespoke package just for you.
Prices for room hire are charged at an affordable hourly rate.
Entertainment
If you would like to make your event more interactive with the surroundings here, you are very welcome to offer the opportunity to use the lake itself, whether this is for a reflective floating tour (wheelchair accessible) or for younger guests to be entertained with watersports – or indeed to indulge in an activity enjoyed by your loved one – we would be happy to arrange this for you.

We have 6 holiday properties on site, should you need somewhere for guests to stay who may be visiting from further afield.
